NATIVE AMERICAN BASKET MAKER Sue Hill, Cahuilla-Lusieño, posed for a picture at the 4th Annual Fiesta in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, November, 2005.
In the photo, Sue Hill holds three bundles of dried deergrass, and a work-in-progress coiled juncus basket with natural and black-dyed juncus. The deergrass is used in the juncus basket's foundation, and the Native weaver demonstrated her aboriginal weaving technique during the California Indian event with these working basketry props.
