CALIFORNIA INDIAN COUNTRY Community PosterI, photojournalist GARY BALLARD, was pretty proud of this community poster because all the photos were taken by me over the past 20 years working in Indian Country, the poster was laid out by me, I took it to the printing vendor, and I delivered finished posters (the color was as perfect as CMYK gets). It was released as a CALIE.ORG Ernie Salgado Jr. project for the SCTCA (Southern California Tribal Chairmen's Association). In fact, the design began as a SOARING EAGLES community poster in support of the 2010 US Census, but when Ernie saw my original concept, he had me make it bigger and add in some of my other Indian Country photos to help round out the Southern California tribal members as well as the urban Indian community members. The gigantic "basket start" is Eva Salazar's famous 35-inch Kumeyaay juncus basket.
