WIDE LANDSCAPE Panoramic Indian Reservation

Scroll picture to right --------------->>>

This panoramic digital photograph, looking west, pictures the Los Coyotes Indian Reservation tribal office and small church
with a large mountain in the background.

The Los Coyotes tribal office sits in a mountain valley called San Ysidro Valley.

The green mountain behind the tribal compound is named "Kupnil" in Cahuilla language, a mountain and name that is
referenced in old Los Coyotes stories about their reservation. The particular story includes references to native
California mountain bighorn sheep that have long since been killed off or chased out of the area.

Jeepers, or four-wheelers, have nicknamed the mountain "Marshmallow Hill."

The tribal administrative area is located at about 3,500 feet above sea level
in some of the most remote mountain areas of Southern California.
