GOURDRATTLES Kumeyaay Bird Singers Pictures

A row of NATIVE AMERICAN RATTLES are pictured as Ben Nance (far left in blue cap) joins a Native group of California Indian musicians singers Kumeyaay bird singing artists as they perform traditional Yuman songs using unique painted and natural gourd rattles during a Kumeyaay California Indian gathering and pow wow on the Sycuan Indian Reservation, 2005.

Please see americanindiansource.com feature on Ron Christman (in white hat), including audio recording of Mr. Christman performing live, and a Ron Christman Ipai-Tipai published article about Traditional Origins of Southern California Bird Songs.

Some of the photographed Native American Indian rattles were made by Cocopah bird singer NICK WILSON, an elected Cocopah tribal leader and well known Indigenous artist who handcrafts a large variety of California indigenous traditional items in the ancient ways, including gourd rattles, peon sets, war clubs, bows & arrows, lances, willow bark skirts, baby cradles, and ancient aboriginal games in the traditional ways.
